Enter the Void Opening Credit Stills

I knew this would take a while when I started, but I should have doubled that estimate …sigh*. These are all* the stills from the opening sequence to Gaspar Noe’s Enter the Void. If you’ve seen the film, or read most reviews you’ll know how well and truly entrancing and hypnotic this sequence is when when projected 20ft high in a darkened room. I’m not entirely sure why I felt this was a good idea, but I’m glad to be able to appreciate the work put into the myriad of strobing typography on display.

I tried to grab as many as possible whilst avoiding the fades and duplicated colour changes, but this got quite tricky somewhere around the actors credits when it really lets rip. Sadly also to make this even a half sensible size to fit on here the images are still quite small meaning a lot of the detail (and there is a lot) is lost so I might put some of my favourites up on flickr at some point.

*Some may notice that this doesn’t include the ‘German crew etc’ credits that start before these – but these aren’t available online in high enough def & there’s a clear distinction between these ending through to ‘Wild Bunch’ onwards.

Of course I don’t own the rights to these images so I don’t really have the right to request but if you’re going to use the collection then please drop in a link/ attribution.

breakfast club

2 weeks ago as I finished packing up my Hackney flat I decided it was time to donate my John Hughes VHS collection to the charity shop (a decision I never thought I’d end up regretting so quickly). I bundled them up into a carrier bag and was about to send them out the door when I realised I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to them all at once, and decided to at least ‘save Ferris’. (more…)

9things

17 days and no posts, tut tut tut. This was due to being very busy recently (which 9 on the list partially explains) and not for a lack of subject matter, in fact there’s been a tidal wave of subjects I could have written about that I felt overwhelmed at the prospect of catching up. So here is a rodeo round up of 9 things that I could have written about but didn’t since June 1st… (more…)

Wings of Desire 3D

About a year ago when 3D was being hailed as the saviour of film I wrote a post on my previous blog listing directors I’d love to see work in the format to save it from my expectations  of ‘poking objects’ cinema (with the exception of Coraline which was then gleaming on the horizon). Although Wim Wenders wasn’t on said list I’m excited and curious at the recent news of his upcoming 3D dance feature film with choreographer Pina Bausch

sandpits and playmakers

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I’d been planning on waiting till I next attended a sandpit session before writing a post about them, but sadly fate keeps guiding me back to the Midlands when they’re taking place. However today’s website launch/ announcement by social fun making gurus the Playmakers provided the perfect opportunity to write one up now.

sensible comments on wolverine

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

wolverineNovember last year I attended a talk about digital piracy by the Industry Trust. Whilst I respect the work that the ‘IT’ undertake some of the comments made by the speakers at this talk seriously got my back up (in fact got my back up to the point that I had to detour via the apple store on route home to type up my rant) as they were hypocritical and misguided about their approaches to combating piracy through alternative distribution models.

However praise be as sanity may be slowly prevailing as in last weeks Guardian box office round up by Charles Gant came some incredibly sensible comments regarding the pre release leak of Wolverine online… (more…)
